Athlete's foot is a fungal infection that causes a scaly, cracked rash between the toes.
The rash may:
Itch and burn
Become raw when scratched
Spread to the arch area
Cause the foot to have an odor
With proper treatment, athlete's foot usually clears in 1 to 2 weeks. Keep the feet clean and dry, and consider going barefoot or wear sandals or thongs as much as possible. Wear shoes that allow the feet to breathe, and wear cotton socks because cotton absorbs sweat and keeps the feet dry. Change socks twice a day. Dry the feet thoroughly after baths and showers.
Over the counter antifungal creams often work well for most people. However, if the problem has not responded well to those medicines then it is best to see Dr. Teufel. You may need an in depth skin evaluation and prescription medication. Contact us today!
